In a quest to be a customer experience innovator, the client wanted to offer a simple, contactless grocery shopping experience that extended beyond self-service registers, self-checkout and would require zero interactions with cashiers or any personnel. The desire to innovate was propelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Creating a frictionless shopping app with artificial intelligence and machine learning
UST teamed with Retail Business Services, the services company of the client to create a fully automated and contactless in-store shopping solution that benefited clients and merchants. UST delivered a robust contactless checkout experience by unifying artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies with cameras, weight sensors using edge computing technology, and deployed on a cloud platform.
The solution allowed customers to enter a store by scanning a QR code through a mobile app, pick up their items, process payments digitally and walk out. It allowed store operators to see sales and inventory data.

The UST Walk In, Walk Out solution reduced staffing requirements, delivered a higher ROI with 99% billing accuracy and zero shrinkage.
